Tony joined McElroys in 2005, following a period as principal in a firm conducting general litigation and insolvency work.

Tony has extensive experience in general civil litigation, gained over a twenty year period.

For the last ten years Tony has specialised in insurance litigation, providing indemnity and liability advice to insurers on a wide range of claims, including product liability, public liability, professional indemnity (engineers, and architects) and subrogated recoveries, with a particular focus on construction disputes and major fire claims.

Tony has considerable experience and expertise with alternative dispute resolution, including private mediation, and has an excellent record of settling claims.

Overall, Tony’s focus is on providing clear pragmatic advice to clients, with the aim of achieving the best possible outcome for clients in the most effective and expeditious manner.

Recent trial involvement/outcomes:


  • Represented a wide range of building professionals in construction disputes, including structural failure cases, and weathertightness claims;
  • Acted in a number of horticultural and agricultural claims defending suppliers and manufacturers against claims for damage to crops and stock;
  • Extensive experience with claims involving major fire losses, including defending fire related liability claims against electricians, consultants and mechanics;
  • Subrogated recovery actions on behalf of insurers in respect of material damage and business interruption claims in fire claims and construction disputes.
