Colin Hunter

Solicitor | LLB(Hons) BMus(Hons)


With experience in a variety of legal areas, particularly marine, professional indemnity and legal research, Colin joined McElroys in 2016. He is regularly involved in supporting litigation, the negotiation of settlements and is passionate about the development of law relating to trade and maritime and contract law.

Colin is a member of the Maritime Law Association of Australia and New Zealand (MLAANZ). An avid researcher, he is also a member of the Legal Research Foundation and has a strong interest in detailed legal issues.

With Honours Degrees in both Law and Music, he was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 2016. His interest in music has fuelled his community work, starting a music programme for a school in Mangere and teaching music to refugees from Myanmar. Colin is also passionate about issues of poverty and homelessness and enjoys cooking and distributing meals to Auckland’s homeless as and when he is able.

  • Professional Indemnity – real estate agents, architects, directors, accountants.
  • General and Liability – material damage, subrogated recoveries.
