Stacey Fraser

Solicitor | LLM, LLB(Hons), BA

Stacey graduated from Victoria University with a Master of Laws with a focus on international commercial arbitration. She joined McElroys in 2018 after gaining 12 years of experience in both in-house and private practice. Stacey has appeared in the Court of Appeal, High Court of New Zealand, the District Court and specialist jurisdictions such as the Environment Court, Weathertight Homes Tribunals (Mediation) and the Tenancy Tribunal.

Her strong background and experience in public, international and maritime law matters has seen her represent New Zealand at international meetings of the IMO legal committee and IOPC Funds meetings in London. Stacey has a particular interest in marine insurance matters, including maritime casualty response, environmental liabilities and international shipping, alongside maritime and marine environment regulation.

She is a member of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Associations (WISTA) and has been the Secretary of the New Zealand branch of the Maritime Law Association of Australia and New Zealand (MLAANZ) since 2015.

Adventurous by nature, Stacey enjoys trail running around the beautiful Waiheke Island and at the time of writing was awaiting the arrival of a new motorbike to see if she can still ride one. However she also enjoys indulging her passions for reading, wine and languages – and is currently attempting to master French.
