Stacey Fraser
Senior Associate | LLM, LLB(Hons), BA
Stacey was admitted to the bar in 2006 and joined McElroys in 2018, bringing a broad range of experience from working both in-house and in private practice. Stacey has appeared in the Court of Appeal, High Court of New Zealand, the District Court and specialist jurisdictions such as the Environment Court, Weathertight Homes Tribunals (Mediation) and the Tenancy Tribunal. Stacey works with our marine team and across general insurance matters with a particular focus on helping clients navigate complex regulatory and compliance investigations, and dealing with statutory liabilities, health and safety, and public law issues.
Stacey has a particular interest in maritime law and marine insurance matters, including maritime casualty response, environmental liabilities and international shipping. Her background and experience includes representing New Zealand at international meetings of the IMO legal committee and IOPC Funds meetings in London.
She is currently a Director of the Maritime Law Association of New Zealand and Australia (MLAANZ), and a long-term member of the NZ branch committee, being NZ branch secretary from 2015 – 2021. Stacey is also a member of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Associations (WISTA),
Stacey enjoys trail running around the beautiful Waiheke Island, which is necessary because she also enjoys indulging her passions for reading, wine and good food. She displays persistent (but of questionable success) attempts to master French and recently decided to try roller skating again.
